I just got how brilliant this is.
Because think about it. He doesn’t say he’s gay. The only thing we learn here is that he has a boyfriend.
So yeah, he could be gay. He could also be biromantic or panromantic or demiromantic or asexual. Pretty much anything that isn’t exclusively heteromantic.
And it’s a really wonderful bit of ambiguity because it means that no matter where on the romantic spectrum you fall, you can read this as representing you.
It’s a small thing, really. But so long as queer representation in kid’s films is gonna happen with baby steps, I honestly can’t think of a better start.
